Help me give my students a big book stand and big books that will help increase accessibility and engagement during literature lessons!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I have the honor of teaching 21 amazing and loving first graders! My students truly enjoy coming to school and have a smile on their face from the moment they greet me and walk in my classroom, despite the struggles they may face outside of school.
My students are extremely hard-working, optimistic, and enthusiastic to learn!
They are constantly surprising me with their capabilities at their young ages of 6/7 years old. Even though they are all on different levels academically, they are all excited to grow as learners and determined to achieve personal success (in the above photo we were all Super Readers as we celebrated the end of a reading unit).
With their large print and colorful illustrations big books take read aloud time to a new level! Students sitting in all areas of the classroom, even when socially distanced, can see the text and images on a big book.
Big books engage students in all kinds of stories while allowing whole class demonstration for reading and concept of print skills such as, page turning, 1:1 pointing, directionality of reading, and so much more.
To allow for proper storage and student use, a big book cabinet and display stand is essential. When big books are not properly stored or accessible for student use they end up broken and unusable. With your kind donation I will be able to create a big book area in our classroom that is not only for teacher led read alouds, but also for students to engage in the reading of the familiar big books with one another. Your kindness and generosity will make all the difference. This gift will keep on giving for many years to come.
