Hello, Hola, xin chào, Hallå, سلام, Kamusta, Olá, ہیلو, 你好, 여보세요, and welcome to this request for books and reading response supplies that benefit energetic and enthusiastic 2nd graders who represent many languages.

Thank you for reading this proposal for books and tools with which they'll read, cook, and make music together.

Like worms around an apple, students surround a big book to examine the photos, discuss details in the pictures, locate new vocabulary, practice sounding out words, and re-tell the story. The pot, spice grinder, plushies, extension cord, craft scissors, metal ruler, and wind instrument become tools for literature response activities including re-enacting stories with plushie characters and sound effects, creating dioramas with scissors and ruler, or cooking with the pot (as inspired by Jane Yolen's book, Fairy Tale Feasts) with diverse, freshly ground spices. If a mistake is made, they'll use whiteout; and if it rains, they'll stay indoors for recess and play quiet catch with and use wool dryer balls for a game of quiet ball.
