Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a small, fully inclusive charter school, where almost seventy percent of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. I work with students who are labeled in many ways: ELL, LD, ID, BIP, IEP, SLP, apraxic, autistic, ADD, ADHD, ODD, and the list goes on. I'm working to help students remove their labels and find their feet, as well as their voices.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds, but one thing they have in common is their thirst for creative learning opportunities.
My Project
Help give my students amazing book choices to choose from when they finish assignments early or during a read-to-self station. Requested titles include Code 7: Cracking the Code for an Epic Life, Lunch Lady, Inside My Imagination, The Skeleton Tree, The Word Collector, Pooperella: A Farty Tale Classic, and Up From the Sea.
Exposure to new novels and different genres is key to creating lifelong readers.
Reading builds vocabulary. Reading inspires adventures. Reading makes us think. Reading leads to discovery. Reading makes us better writers. Writers read the world! Help us change the world with strong readers by helping stock our shelves with high-quality, empathy-building, expressive literature that is captivating and engaging. It takes a village to create strong readers that challenge and push themselves further and further along the path of literacy. You can be part of that village!
