Multicultural group of students looks forward to having fun learning sessions with big books!
I work with a diverse student population in an urban school setting. I serve students in grades K through 8 and help them adjust to their new life in America through ESOL classes focusing on literacy and culture.
I currently work with small groups of students varying in grade, language proficiency, and interest levels. The school district supplies curriculum materials and the particular school assigns the teaching space, which in my case is a little room in the media center. With so many different textbooks, picture dictionaries, big books, and posters, my classroom looks more like a storage closet. It takes a lot of time to pull the needed books and posters out and keep them organized and accessible for the students.
I am always looking for the ways to make my classroom more inviting and space efficient. The Big Book Literacy Center with storage provides both the ability to store books in the back compartments sorted by grade levels and to use it as a big book easel with the dry erase surface in the front.
