My Students

Frederick Douglass once said, "It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men." I am charged with the extraordinary task of preparing my young students to be strong, adept scholars. It is with this enormous responsibility in mind that I ask for your help.

I teach at a high poverty school.

Many of my students will come to school in the morning without their basic needs met. It seems like only in school, they eat and achieve a sense of stability. Within the safe classroom environment, they learn and flourish. It is amazing what they learn. They will leave Kindergarten reading!

My Project

My request for big books will enhance the literacy experience in our classroom. The text in big books is large. With highlighting tape, my students can highlight a variety of things with no damage to the book. With the tape they can explore the book for words they recognize, punctuation, capital letters, and more. Allowing students to interact with the text in this manner, creates meaning and defines the importance of words and letters enabling them to learn faster.

With a donation to this project you are giving not only books, but a solid foundation in my students lives.
