This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The majority of students at our school come from a socioeconomically disadvantaged background. Many of our students do not have preschool experience, and some have never been read to at home. For many students, this is the first time they are socializing outside the familiar comfort of family.

My students like to learn about many things from books and real life experiences.

Books are a valuable tool that gives them the opportunity to use their imaginations and increase their knowledge about many new and different subjects. Most importantly, books help them get in touch with their feelings, opinions, and how they perceive their world and others.

My Project

My students would love to have a variety of big books to be used in class when we do shared reading. These big books will be of great use since we do shared reading every day. These well written books are valuable to students because my students learn what good readers need to do as they read by cross checking for meaning, structure, and visual.

We are always looking for great stories we can use for shared reading.

Big books are wonderful when all eyes need to be on one text. The big print and enlarged illustrations are ideal for targeting specific teaching points. Please help us get more big books to help teach reading!
