Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is full of JOY, LOVE, and INDEPENDENT learners. Our teachers work consistently to strengthen each student's special talents and strive to motivate them. It takes a team from our Community, Parents, Administration, and Students to engage our eager participants in order to reach our educational goals in reading.
My class consists of 15 students, that are 4 years old.
This is a "Blended Classroom" with a variety of needs such as Special Needs, Speech, Social Work, while others have English as a Second Language. All are serviced in a classroom that is provided with 1 General Education Teacher and Diverse Learner Teacher.
My classroom includes 2 teachers, and an aide to utilize small groups to help provide service to children in a more personalized way and differentiate to meet their individual needs. In other words, we can really address their needs one on one.
My Project
During our group readings on the rug, our Pre-K students have been eager and curious to learn about different situations and storylines while making connections to themselves and others while reading. Often, we use their imagination through books to build comprehension, predicting, fact-finding using illustrations, expressions, and emotions. However, we currently lack the "Big Books" that would allow our students to be exposed to illustrations and prints from any place on the rug. This project would fulfill that need!
Learning objectives about diverse characters and their facial expressions is a large part of learning about feelings and emotions at this tender age in our daily readings.
Classroom libraries are limited to smaller books which is great for small groups but in large groups, students benefit and engage better when a story is in a "Big Book" version and tends to hold their attention, see print and illustrations.
