Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are back in person and I am teaching a sweet, cheerful and eager group of kindergartners this year in Los Angeles. It is my first full year in person in this district and I am slowly building my new classroom. I'm eager to continue to engage my students and to cultivate a long lasting love for learning in their introductory years to school.
My Project
I will use big books to cultivate a love for books in my students as well as develop their early literacy skills. I will explicitly model one to one word matching by pointing to each word, discuss how print has meaning and allow students to understand and learn text directionality. My students will enjoy these beloved stories and nonfiction texts as well as getting to read them on their own by reading and retelling the familiar texts. We will use them in whole group read alouds, literacy centers, and individual reading times.
