Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Bilingual Kindergarten is located in a inner city area with a large population of English as Second Language Learners. The parents in many cases are unable to speak English and struggle to help my children with their language acquisition. My Bilingual Kindergarten students, themselves, are not only struggling to learn English as a second language but in many cases are working just as hard to become proficient in Spanish.
My students are basically language deficient. They require a variety of different hands on techniques to ensure success for all children. The big book series with its super simple text and unique rhyming builds early literacy skills. The magnetic write and wipe center then provides the hands on component for learning. The big book series focuses on color words but also includes easy text, allowing for early reading success and language acquisition. English as Second Language Learners find simplicity the basis for further language development. The magnetic write and wipe storage unit allow the students to then write those words or build them with magnetic letters for those children in an even more concrete stage.
Again it is so important to individualize their instruction as much as possible to create success. Your generous support will help my students to improve their English proficiency and overall language ability knowing this will lead to overall academic achievement. Thanks.
