Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a struggling, high needs, urban neighborhood in New York City. Our school is a warm, nurturing environment, and the children enjoy coming to school. I am currently teaching 18 lovable preschoolers who are curious, funny, loving, and eager to learn. The parents of our students are working hard to make a better life for their families and desire a stellar education for their children.
My little ones are curious, imaginative, loving, creative, honest, and cute.
The community is diverse and considerably lower income. The children I teach are all eager to learn and are enthusiastic. My classroom is comprised of children who are learning English and also with children who have different abilities.
My Project
This project will enable Big Bird from Alley Pond Environmental Center to come to our classroom and introduce my little Tweetie birds to the world of birds. Think about it, my preschoolers really do not even see birds other than pigeons in the Bronx.
The children will explore the adaptations birds have developed to survive in different ecosystems, their life cycle, and predator/prey relationships.
Students will learn these concepts and develop their observation skills while examining feathers, eggs, nests, skulls, and talons.
Through this experience, my students will learn about birds and their habitats. My students will see nature come to life before their eyes. Children learn best through experiences that are integrated and multi-sensory. Please help us to explore science right here in our classroom. This will be an experience the children would never forget.
Your donation to this interactive experience would enrich my teaching and give the students experiences that go considerably beyond the picture, pencil, and paper activities. I try to make my classroom a constructionist one with an emphasis on understanding by doing things hands-on. A strong science program in the early grades can lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning in exploration and discovery. Please consider donating to this project.
