My Students

My students come from a rural area that was hard hit by Hurricane Harvey. They not only lost their school, but lost their homes to floodwaters. Many of them are still living in homes that are not yet repaired, and we are attending school in an unfinished building in our district.

Despite all of this, they come to school eager to learn.

The smiles on their faces each day and their ability to adjust to our situation amazes me. They are always up for my challenges and rise to my expectations. Giving them a relaxed environment in which to work is icing on the cake.

My Project

After being displaced from our campus for five months as a result of Hurricane Harvey, we are going HOME to portable buildings! Our new classroom is a blank slate. We have had many generous donations of wonderful books to read, but have no place to display them. The book shelves will allow students optimum viewing to make their choices.

My bibliomaniacs love to read and having cushions, pillows, and appropriate lighting will provide a comfortable classroom atmosphere.

The funding of this project will give them a relaxed environment to not only enjoy their reading time, but to complete class work as well.
