My students are absolutely amazing. My students are creative, driven, respectful, responsible, and dedicated to their education both in and outside of school. All of my students require individualized lessons and materials in order to best meet their needs in a developmentally appropriate manner. These students deserve options within my classroom. This includes different novels to read along with various seating options with my room. When students feel that their voice is heard, they are more open to learning and expanding their knowledge.
My Project
When faced with a reading and/or writing assignment, the first questions my students ask are "Do we have anything fun to read?" and "Do we have to stay at our desks?" Therefore, I chose young adult novels geared toward this age group such as Harry Potter and Lemony Snickett's A Series of Unfortunate Events. Once the students have a variety of novels to choose from, they will then need a place to read comfortably. This is where the bean bag chairs and foam mats come into play. This will help students feel at home within my classroom. When students feel at home within a classroom, they are more open to learning.
