Help me give my students new folders that will help them get materials from school to home and letter tiles to help them with reading and writing.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My goal as a teacher is to make sure that when my students enter my classroom it is their home away from home. For some of my students my classroom is the most consistent and safest place that they encounter. My students come from a title one school where everyone now receives free breakfast and lunch.
However, with the challenges they face they still come in full of life and asking, "What are we doing today Ms. Wyatt?” I often get big hugs and 25 little people trying to tell me all about their night at one time.
Most importantly, my students teach ME something new every day and allow me to learn right alongside them. I have come to realize that I am someone they look up to as I often hear them repeating things that I say or trying to run the classroom when I step out!
My students are now working on tapping out words, reading words, and spelling words. Magna-tiles are their absolute favorite toy to use during free choice time. Well now they can use magna-tiles to create and read words. It is a great way to engage all my learners and give them a center that jumping for joy to do. As we move into the second half of the year my kiddos are now doing work independently and in groups they use the dry erase inserts to solve math problem, practice writing, and to share ideas.
My kiddos have a hard time getting their homework, books, sight word rings, and important notices home from school, therefore impacting their grades.
So, the other part of my project is new durable folders that will allow them to get everything where it needs to be, allow students to complete and return homework, as well as, keep parents updated on all classroom news.
