My students need various Harry Potter themed books such as the illustrated editions of the first three Harry Potter Books, the unofficial Harry Potter Spellbook, Who is JK Rowling and others to extend our collection.
Our students come from various different neighborhoods within our school district. They speak more than twenty-seven languages including English, Spanish, Bulgarian, Russian, Japanese, Tagalog, and Arabic. Twenty percent of our students qualify for a free or reduced cost breakfast/lunch.
Our students are so diverse; with many students excelling in academics, athletics, and artistic endeavors as well as struggling with various disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities.
Our primary social focus is community building and character education.
Regardless of where our students come from, they deserve to be successful. Our school is their home and our tight knit community works closely together to see that all students have the chance, and the materials to learn and grow. Our students are amazing! They dream and think and question, always wondering about the world around them. They are the scientists, inventors, authors, artists, mathematicians and visionaries of tomorrow. By fostering an environment of collaboration, community, healthy competition, and risk taking, we are building a future that will make us proud.
My Project
Do you remember what it was like to get lost in a good book? Or what it was like to dream of being part of a universe that had been crafted for your pleasure? My students are so enamored with the Harry Potter Series that they all want to go to Hogwarts. I can relate. I have been known to wear a shirt to school on casual Fridays which states "Hogwarts wasn't hiring so I teach muggles instead!"
The students had the brilliant idea that we should turn our classroom into Hogwarts.
We recently received some banners to redecorate our classroom like the Hogwarts castle. Most of my students have already read the core Harry Potter literature. What they are demanding (in the kindest possible way) is for me to stock our shelves with auxiliary reading materials such as biography of JK Rowling, letters written to Harry Potter from children around the world, spellbooks, and cookbooks that are written for the Harry Potter Universe. Students were also very interested in the illustrated editions of the Harry Potter books.
I cannot bring my students to Hogwarts but, if I get this project funded, I can bring Hogwarts to them. Please help us bring this project to life. Thank you for your consideration,
