Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in or around a multi-cultural, college town in northern Louisiana. The areas some of students live in can be considered rural but the community as a whole supports education. My students enjoy learning Spanish because they know it is a useful tool for their future. Our community is receiving more and more Hispanics and the need for bilingualism is increasing.
I always tell my kids that they hold the world in their hands.
Through cell phones, the internet, and wireless communication, the entire world is available to them. By knowing another language, they can communicate with Spanish speakers around the globe and create new friendships and relationships. I would like to motivate and encourage my students to keep learning Spanish both in school and outside of school to open their minds and their world.
My Project
The items I've chosen are to help me motivate and encourage my students to go beyond basic Spanish that you can learn from "Dora" and common Mexican holidays and into a deeper knowledge of the Hispanic culture. We live in a town that mixes college town atmosphere with rural backgrounds. It is more cosmopolitan that you would think. Our kids are exposed to many nationalities on a daily basis and particularly students whose first language is Spanish.
The treats and headbands along with other items will help me reward those students who are going the extra mile in their learning and will help me motivate those students for whom learning Spanish is more difficult.
