This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in a low-income high-needs urban community, which I have loved serving for the past 15 years. We are a Title I school, where 100% of our students receive free lunch. This is a community that endures poverty and violence but continues to overcome every challenge by rebuilding and transforming their neighborhood. This resilience and enthusiasm is reflected in our children.

My students come from diverse backgrounds, and all arrive in my classroom eager to learn, to succeed, and to feel safe and loved.

My goal as their teacher is to make sure these needs are met every day. I want to provide them with every opportunity afforded to others. I hope you will join me!

My Project

This is undoubtedly a schoolyear unlike any other. Every part of our day is somewhere between just a little, and a whole lot different from what we're all used to. In spite of all this "different", there are still things that will never change.

Children will always need, love, and be enthralled by the wonder of a good book.

I will always be a little obsessed about finding new stories to share with them. Stories to make us laugh, others that encourage us to think, and some to help us make sense of ourselves and the world around us, guiding us to find our place in it, and prompting our character to take shape.

Each of these books will serve a purpose beyond the story. Thank you for helping me share them with my students!
