My Students
Proper seating for children with special needs is essential for their participation in school activities. The right equipment can enhance the health, independence, and comfort of children who require additional support with proper seating and positioning.
My students are autistic and range in age from 5 to 10 years old.
They receive special instruction in small classrooms, as well as related services such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech. My students present with delays in strength, coordination, motor planning, etc. Many have difficulty attending for extended periods of time, and demonstrate sensory-seeking behaviors.
My Project
Better seating options, like a disc o sit or chair ball, will change my students' lives within the school environment. Correct seating and positioning will facilitate better posture which can lead to improved attention to task within the classroom and other school locations. My students will be able to remain seated for longer periods of time which will enhance their academic performance.
I've seen the difference that simple seating solutions make within the school community.
Although I may not be able to meet the seating needs of all the children in my school, I can incorporate better seating options into several of the classrooms I work in. Please position my students to be more successful as they engage in their everyday school activities.
