My Project
Replacing harsh fluorescent lighting in my windowless, interior classroom with Govee lighting bars, light strips, lamps, and projectors will significantly enhance the learning environment for my 9th–12th grade social studies students. Fluorescent lighting often causes eye strain, fatigue, and discomfort, which can negatively impact students' ability to focus and engage with material throughout the day. In contrast, Govee lighting allows for soft, adjustable, and colorful illumination that can be tailored to different times of day or learning activities, promoting a calm and inviting atmosphere that supports sustained attention and improved mood. These lighting upgrades can also help simulate natural light, which is especially important in a classroom with no access to daylight.
This improved lighting setup supports not only academic engagement but also student well-being.
Many of my students come from lower to middle-income households and represent a wide variety of cultural, linguistic, and learning backgrounds. Some students are neurodivergent or have sensory sensitivities that make traditional classroom lighting a barrier to learning. The flexibility of Govee lighting enables me to create a more inclusive, sensory-friendly space that respects the diverse needs of my learners. Whether I’m setting a calming tone for quiet reading or energizing the room for group discussions, this lighting allows me to adapt to my students' emotional and cognitive needs throughout the day.
Overall, upgrading to Govee lighting will not only remove the discomfort of fluorescent lighting but also contribute to a classroom environment that fosters engagement, equity, and academic success for all students.
