Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Last school year and this school year I've had to say goodbye to my students in person for a few weeks because of quarantine. This has been a comfortable place I have been able to provide my students. but, we have to continue learning through remote learning some weeks.
The fact that we would be forced to talk and learn through a computer screen is difficult.
Even though we can see each other through video chats, it isn’t the same. There are no high fives in celebration of a job well done or comforting hugs to brighten sad faces. Instead we are forced to look at one another through a cold, emotionless computer screen.
My Project
We would love to have a MacBook as a tool to enhance learning, motivation, productivity, health, and success in our classroom. I have a variety of learners including students with emotional needs, behavioral challenges, ADHD, learning disabilities, and English language learners. The MacBook could help serve as a tool to reach and motivate my diverse learners. I would be able to use the timer as a motivator for students to beat as an added challenge during math sprint challenges, especially for students who need the extra push. The race against the clock can be very motivating for a reluctant student and students who like to challenge themselves. The MacBook would be beneficial for students to use after physical education activities to monitor their heart rates before and after activities. In addition to that Class Dojo is a great app for classroom management and connects me directly to my parents.
Our school community uses ClassDojo to keep in touch with parents, teachers, and other classrooms.
The MacBook would make it easy to add points for individual students and small groups.
There are apps for translating that would be beneficial when speaking to parents and students who speak other languages.
Students who need to be active would benefit from the music I can instantly play on the MacBook and use it as a quick brain break during the day! The MacBook also comes with an activity monitor and apps where heart rate, steps, progression, etc. can be viewed. The students can test their own level of activity or challenge themselves to exert lots of energy in short bouts to see their fitness levels with graphs and data, which connect to math standards. With you help we will be able to use the MacBook for a variety of ways.
