Help me give my students tools to support mental health advocacy using tools such as texts, anxiety relief materials, and classroom decor to support SEL.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The specific items I am requesting—copies of the DSM, mental health posters and books, and stress balls—will significantly enhance my students' learning experience in AP Psychology. Access to the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) will allow students to engage with the primary tool used by professionals to diagnose mental health disorders. This hands-on experience will deepen their understanding and application of mental health concepts. The mental health posters and books will serve as visual and informational resources, reinforcing key concepts and offering diverse perspectives. These materials will create a rich learning environment, fostering empathy and reducing stigma around mental health.
The inclusion of stress balls will teach students practical stress management techniques, promoting overall mental wellness.
By incorporating these items into our classroom, we aim to enhance understanding of mental health, encourage critical thinking, and create an inclusive learning environment. My students are unique in their diverse experiences and genuine eagerness to learn about mental health. Many have personal or familial experiences with mental health issues, making this project highly relevant. By providing them with the necessary resources and tools, we are not only enhancing their academic learning but also supporting their personal growth and well-being.
