My Students
Even before year began, I knew a good number of my students. Two years ago, I was one of two 4th grade AAP teachers when the other teacher had her baby three weeks into the new school year. In the scramble that ensued, I ended up adopting her class and instructing 48 exceptional students.
Small group, big group, or huge mob, these guys are committed to making the best of any academic situation. Two years after I first encountered them, they still have the flexibility and focus I admired. They rarely require more than a word to redirect their attention, they collaborate naturally, and happily compete to be the best.
My Project
This is my first year with sixth grade and I had hoped some of the old classroom books would work with my older students. They are willing to try, but they crave books of a higher level, books that push them beyond their abilities, books that helped create and shape our world.
When students only have access to dull books, they lose that spark that comes from books that truly stretch their minds. Given access to the classics, they become better students; not just better readers, but better at thinking, analyzing, and creating. Help me give them a classroom library worthy of their potential.
