Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our class is in Metro Atlanta where we are a high-need and a high-potential school. I teach 8th grade Language Arts and I am very lucky to have a group of eager and curious students every day!
Though our media center is outdated, we have been lucky enough to find this wonderful site and the generous donors that make it work to build a great little library in our classroom. My students are so excited about what we are building, that they took a very active role in helping me choose the books on this list. My kids have started to fall in love with the great characters that talented writers are able to bring to life. That is why they have chosen so many box sets, so they can answer the inevitable question,"What happens next?"
These sets that we have chosen will create a great appetite in my students. An appetite to seek, an appetite to solve and most importantly, an appetite to read. You will see classes of students with the novel by Harrison or Lewis they are reading, the best sign a teacher can see. You will see students reading voraciously to get to the next adventure. And you will see students discussing the great book by Tolkien or king that they read, not the myspace message they got last night.
Your kind donations have already started to build a great love in my class. A love of reading, yes, but also a love for the people that care enough to donate to our humble library. As our students read and build their minds, they also feel the love of learning you must feel and build their hearts. As these things happen in my class, I often ask excitedly, "What happens next?"
