My students are multi-racial, multi-lingual, and mixed grade levels. More than 50% of my students have learning disabilities, behavioral concerns, and/or past issues with math classes that make them struggle as soon as they walk in to my room. I have a student who needs to stand up at different times during the period and struggles to write and/or type while standing.
One of my students tries to swap his metal folding chair for my reclining teacher chair without my noticing pretty much every class period.
Some of my students don't say a single word unless specifically asked a question. Others don't stop talking through the whole period.
Some of my classes have as few as 7 students, and others have as many as 25. And I have students ranging in grades from 9 - 12.
My Project
The first project I created was fully funded by another grant so I am requesting this second project to be funded by you wonderful donors. My students have been using the flexible seating options (bean bag chairs, exercise balls, standing desks, and reclining chairs) for about a month now and I have seen significant improvement in student engagement. I see that the exercise balls are the most popular flexible seating option so I would like to have more of these available for my students. I have also figured out that I will need to clean the carpet and bean bags periodically, so that’s why I have requested the cleaning supplies. Thank you so much for your support!
