Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is full of precious and energetic first graders. They are part of an Immersion program which 90% of the instruction is in Spanish. This program gives children the opportunity to develop a second language and learn about different cultures through fun and interacting activities.
Their curiosity to learn new things in Spanish never stop, making them express what they know in a second language.
I teach at a Title I school which most of the students receive free lunch/breakfast every day. Parents really want the best for their children and trust on me as their teacher to help meet challenges. My students are always looking for fun and ready to learn about the world. Therefore, I want to empower them to be successful in this globally-dependent society.
My Project
In first grade, we work in small groups to target different academic areas in Spanish. My students participate in 20-30 rotations each day, but it is hard for them to stay motivated and engaged during these rotations without comfortable seats.
As teachers, we are always looking for ways to engage our students as well as give them choices about the environment that they are learning.
My goal is to enhance engagement and learning in our classroom so my students will have the option to sit on wobble chairs, balance balls, and soft seats. Flexible seating options will allow my students to stay focused and comfy while they are working. I believe that having these wonderful seats would help my students feel engaged and take ownership of their own learning.
