Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are AWESOME -- but they need your help!! They want to learn, grow and achieve. They can work hard and they want most to succeed. They are bright, they have imaginations, they are our future leaders.
They work as individuals as well as in groups.
They support each other and want to grow. However, their demographic environment is challenging. My school is in an area of high poverty. Not all my students have access to what many of us consider 'necessities', laptops/tablets, smartphones, cable, internet access at home, etc.
100% of my school receives free lunch.
My students have a love of learning. They are working hard each day to learn more and grow.
My Project
My students crave individual privacy when testing. Right now, they are so focused on whether or not their neighbor is copying their work, they are unable to focus on doing their very best.
A neighboring teacher allowed us to borrow some privacy shields once for a classroom test and my kids LOVED using them!
- Their individual scores were higher on that test than on others they've taken. Right now they use the materials they have access to, that is, using their notebooks, folders, library books, etc. to create a 'makeshift' privacy space.
I believe they will perform better if they don't have to worry about another person copying their work; one less distraction! With testing season right around the corner, it would be awesome to surprise my students with their own "privacy space."
