Our students are fantastic! They come from a variety of backgrounds which makes the classroom a very diverse environment. The school is in an urban setting where we have many ELL students. There are over 700 preK-6th grade students at our school. Many of them do not have access to healthy meals, so the school runs a food pantry for students to take food home over the weekend.
These students want to do well, but many lack the tools needed to succeed.
Welcome! That's how I want my students to feel whenever they are in my classroom. As a reading teacher we have a lot of opportunities in class for the students to read; they listen to me read, they read with each other, and they read independently. This requires the room to have a certain relaxing and calming feel to it.
Live plants bring life into the classroom and colorful stools help brighten it up.
An aromatherapy diffuser can help the students relax and focus on the current task. A couch can be important when we have meetings since we can't all fit on the rug. The key to getting students to work hard is to make them feel welcome and comfortable in their own classroom!
