This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The requested games and interactive activities are designed to foster social-emotional learning, communication, and teamwork among students in our special education (SPED) program. Many of our students face challenges in forming and maintaining friendships due to social skill deficits, communication barriers, or sensory sensitivities. Games provide a structured yet fun way for them to practice essential social skills like turn-taking, problem-solving, emotional regulation, and cooperation in a low-pressure environment. By incorporating interactive board games, cooperative play activities, and digital resources tailored for SPED students, we can create meaningful opportunities for engagement, leading to increased confidence and improved peer relationships.

What are your goals for this project?

Enhance Social Skills Development: Provide structured opportunities for students to practice communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution through play-based learning. Promote Inclusion and Friendship-Building: Encourage meaningful peer interactions by creating a safe and supportive environment where students can connect and develop friendships.

What makes my students special?

Our students are incredible individuals with unique strengths, talents, and perspectives. They may navigate the world differently due to disabilities such as autism, ADHD, speech and language impairments, or intellectual disabilities, but they bring creativity, resilience, and a desire to connect with others. Given the right tools and support, they thrive in environments that nurture their abilities and foster meaningful social connections. This project will help unlock their potential by providing opportunities to develop essential life skills, build friendships, and gain confidence in their interactions with peers.
