My Students

My students attend a large urban middle school and come from very diverse backgrounds. Over half of my students are economically disadvantaged, and approximately one-third of them are reading below grade level. In addition, our school is fully integrated. Our incoming seventh and eighth class do have seventeen students with Individual Education Plans (IEP's).

Despite the fact that a large portion of the students deals with many adversities, there is an ongoing desire to improve.

This is because these students want to learn and the staff here puts significant effort into ensuring that they do learn.

My Project

I am providing several types of seating for students to select from when it comes to silent reading. The classroom has several bean bags and flip cozy chairs for the students to use. Ordering the Baxton Studio Roanoke Bench will provide the students with another choice of seating.

Bench reading could be compared to bench pressing.

Students are strengthening their brains with some consistent pleasurable reading much like body builders strengthening their upper torso by lifting weights. The Baxton Studio Roanoke Bench has a foam padding for cushy seating and roomy enough for two people to sit. Another bonus is the storage compartment for all the books being read.
