This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from across the globe and face enormous challenges. We are a high poverty school and my students come from many backgrounds. Many are English learners and speak Spanish, Korean, Bengali, Tagalog, Russian, and more as their first language.
My students are a bright, motivated and incredibly diverse group of middle school students.
I am inspired by their hard work and dedication to learning. In the face of challenges, they are very resilient.
As a language arts teacher, I want to bring my love of literature, writing and character development to my students as they navigate growing up in Los Angeles.
My Project
Recently we got funded and received two new Chromebooks for our class. Students were so excited to receive them and start learning to do simple coding. We decided to create an app for our school to help students connect with counselors, and receive tutoring services. We also want to make it easy to report bullying or any other problems on campus.
Students are very excited to bring app design to our school with the amazing Microsoft Surface Go.
I mentioned the Surface to my students and that immediately peaked their interest. Students are beginning to explore coding using our current technology and will be able to go even deeper with this device.
The Surface Go will make it easier for us to create an app. The Microsoft Surface Go will help us go below the surface and bring more advanced coding and app design to the students. The stylus pen will help bring their designs to life. The dock will help us connect the Surface to our LCD projector and display what we are working on together.
