My Project

Building a body of age-appropriate classroom literature will not only help foster a love of story-telling and literacy but with the selection of titles in this project, broaden children's minds and understanding that everyone is similar yet different, unique in their own special way that is something to be appreciated and celebrated. My classroom has a small but lovely collection care of a previous DonorsChoose projects and we are hoping to further expand this amazing selection of literature with wider selection and more positive role models.

Having storybooks in the classroom with protagonists who look or are similar to my students will help them feel understood and assure them they are accepted purely for who they are.

Presenting my students with role models of various backgrounds also provides them with someone or something to aspire towards. It is with the hope of further expansion of our diversity and SEL literature collection that my students can further their understandings of kindness and mindfulness.

We want to inspire a thirst for learning and introduce our students to role models, both fiction and non-fiction!
