My kindergartners truly enjoy learning! Our diverse classroom is made up of very eager students who want to take charge of their learning and be successful!
I want to create a fun and engaging classroom that students want to be in!
They love hands-on activities and being able to have the freedom to move in class. We have a very diverse group of students including ESE and ELL students. With many diverse needs, my students are highly motivated and want to take charge of their foundation of learning.
Being kindergartners, my students need to be engaged 100% of the time and a lot of times the classroom is the only place they get the attention that they desire. I love my job for all the "ah ha!" moments I get to see each year and the love and hugs are a definite perk that I wouldn't trade for anything in the world!
My Project
Sometimes the world we live in can get over-whelming and stressful, especially for kids. The Montessori approach to learning provides a calm, quiet environment for children to learn and explore. Being mindful and calming is developing social and emotional skills that can be provided through fun and engaging read aloud books! When having a calm down spot it helps children in social emotional ways by depicting issues and voices like their own.
I want to bring this mindfulness to my students by creating a calming space where children can relax, breathe, and unwind.
I need materials such as the sensory toys that relieves stress along with anxiety. Another calming activity is the ABC Puzzle and the Soft Glow Silent Timer & Light so students can be aware of how long they were in the calming corner. In addition, the books will teach students how to breathe and the flip book will help students learn to become more mindful of their feelings. We will be the authors of our own growth. We will do this by taking learned concepts and expressing them with these exploration materials.
