This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In my classroom, I stress the importance of community and what it means for everyone to assist one another. As we are moving into our second month of school, I am seeing my students develop this sense of responsibility. They are loving, attentive to others needs, and eager to learn the material. This is why I want to provide my students with all the necessary resources that they may need in order to achieve a first and second-grade level reading ability.
My students need a reading library and activities for kindergarten through first grade in order to build a solid reading foundation.
My students must have activities that are structured, keep them engaged, and are tactile. Many of my students struggle with being able to read kindergarten material, so it is vital that they have numerous books and materials to practice reading. A proper library in my classroom could serve as an inspiration and desire for students to read books.
In closing, I want my students to love to read!
My Project
The students will be more confident in their independent reading when reading these books. When the student cannot read at their level, they become frustrated and no longer desire to read. In addition, I believe all students should have the resources, time and opportunity to become successful readers.
The activities will build students' phonological awareness, therefore, building their ability to read various books independently.
The phonological awareness activities will keep students engaged in building a foundation for reading. Next, the students will gain interest in reading books through the fiction books in this project. While obtaining knowledge about the world through the non-fiction books.
