Being Innovative with Pi

Help me give my students Raspberry Pi 3B+ starter kits and an applications kit and a Raspberry Pi Zero.

My Students

My students live in a small, rural community whose primary industry is livestock farming. Many of the students' families are only able to continue farming because one or both parents have jobs off the farm, in one of the nearby towns.

Innovation is the ability to see change as an opportunity, not a threat-Steve Jobs.

Unfortunately, many of my students see change as something that happens to them. I would like to help them see the opportunities that accompany that change.

My Project

Using Raspberry Pi, single board computers, and accessories, students will learn the coding and electronics required to replicate and understand the modern technology behind products like Google Home.

Students will construct and program a smart light switch that they can control from a computer or phone.

Then students will learn how to construct and operate an web enabled thermostat for their classroom, before coming up with their own applications to develop.

By applying what they have learned in other classes, students will have more control and a better understanding of the technology they use daily and prepare them for a career in STEM.
