Help me give my students the resources needed to work on mental health and behavior management. The materials will allow for art therapy, journaling, binder daily check ins, sensory soothing, class family self portraits, and positive behavior instruction.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
With this project my students will have the resources needed to promote positive behavior/mental health in the class. As a special education high school teacher I want to make sure that the materials reach all of the students in class which(including the different needs). I have customized a list that can tend to the variety of needs and abilities for an equitable and positive experience in the classroom. I am certain that these materials will allow students to feel confident in themselves and their abilities, and that they feel that they are a part of the class family.
The materials will allow for students to express themselves, all while being geared toward a healthy and peaceful state of mind.
The goal is for students to become self aware of their behavior and environment so that they can have a positive plan in place for redirection. The binders in class will be used for daily check in as part of a start of the day/class. I will customize these according to students abilities. The journals and pens will be used for journaling and writing about a positive thing that has happened during the week. The film will be used to take all of the students portraits, and we will create a classroom family wall, to remind students they belong. The weighted lap pad, fidget toys and token boards will be used by those students that need the different sensory items and reward system to soothe while attending the journaling tasks. The therapy game will also be another resource that includes all students to participate and promote self awareness of mental health. The students will be rewarded for participation with positive affirmation stickers. Lastly, the students will work on art therapy from the provided booklet, these will be photocopied and passed out.
