This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a high-poverty school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My students are thoughtful and enthusiastic learners.
They come to class each day eager to see their school family and tackle academic challenges. I am constantly amazed by their ingenuity and desire to be better than they were yesterday.
In my classroom, we focus on becoming learners, not just learning material. Hopefully, the skills they acquire are ones that will benefit them throughout their academic journey.
My Project
In my class, I have a ticket system. I pass out tickets when students model certain behaviors (show consideration, support their classmates, don't give up...). Those tickets can be used to "purchase" stickers and other items.
A little bribery never hurt anyone...right?
With a few incentives, my students will be motivated to show the behaviors we talk about in class. The more these behaviors are reinforced, the more automatic they become.
Stickers to decorate their water bottles and bracelets to wear are HOT items in my classroom. These items will go a long way in rewarding students who are striving to be the best versions of themselves.
