Beginning Math Centers & In Need of Supplies

My students need sequencing trains to enhance their learning of numbers to 100. The other math materials will help my students who are still struggling with numbers 0-20.

My Students

My students are from all different types of families and home situations. They come to school with many different challenges already having been conquered before even stepping into the classroom. Most come to school and work extremely hard for all the teachers and in return they just want to be nurtured and loved for who they are.

One of my main focuses this year is to create a more cohesive classroom culture where my students really learn how to care and respect one another.

I have added some different aspects to our daily schedule that allow us to get to know each other better and use social skills appropriately with a lot of teacher-student modeling. I am excited about this change and it is so fun to hear the students forming beautiful relationships with their peers.

My Project

Some of my colleagues began using math centers this year to differentiate their math instruction to better meet their students' needs. They have seen a lot of advancements in their students' math learning, so I wanted to give it a try in my classroom to help my students.

In order to begin implementing math centers in my classroom, I need more hands-on center materials for students to practice their math skills.

Because these materials are hands-on the students can manipulate them to get a deeper understanding of numbers and counting.

We do a lot of work with ten frames all year long, so the ten frame dice will help us do multiple games using these exact types of ten frame pictures. Another thing we work on all year is counting to 100. The sequencing trains will be a fun way for students to practice the sequence of numbers from 1 to 100. Currently, in our math unit we are working on different ways to make numbers. This is a tricky unit for some students to understand, so the number houses will be the perfect way for students to work independently to practice adding groups to make larger numbers.
