My Students
My students come from various cultural and social backgrounds in a wonderfully beautiful neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY.
They are a group of eager learners and readers, and share a strong love towards books.
We love to discuss complex topics, debate from different perspectives, and also build empathy through discussions and readings. Each student brings their own unique experience and knowledge into the classroom that further helps our classroom community to grow a better understanding of each other and the world.
My Project
Our class consists of students who are beginners in english-as-a-new-language(ENL). Many of these students newly entered the country in the past year or two, and receive extra services to support their needs. In the classroom, I would like to further meet their needs by providing engaging beginning chapter books to strengthen their comprehension.
It is imperative that students of ENL also have a variety of books that meet their needs and are engaging to grow as learners.
The list procured below consists of different beginning chapter books that will meet their needs in growing to comprehend english, while providing different characters and storylines that interest 4th graders. By providing a variety and large volume of books, it will allow students who are beginners in english as a new language to grow their comprehension along with their volume in reading. This will hopefully enable the students to engage in middle grade chapter books before the end of the year.
