My young learners are getting ready for STEAM instruction - science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. We have done some work together as a whole class, but the students do not seem confident in their capacity to build independently unless they are provided with self-connecting items like Lego bricks.
In order to spark (or, in some cases, deepen) the students' interest in building, I would love to provide them with high interest, age appropriate blocks and building sets.
By providing a variety of different building materials (plastics, rubber, wood, and magnets) that the students may not have encountered previously, I hope to show them that it is possible to engineer new structures out of a variety of creative materials - even marshmallows and spaghetti!
