Beginning Band Needs Instruments to Keep Marching On

Help me give my students the continued opportunity to experience being part of a band by helping us to acquire more instruments.

My Students

The middle school beginning band students have made amazing progress this past semester. They are the first band class that we've had in twenty years. They have taken on the challenge of being the best that they can be and they continue to demonstrate such a "can do" attitude as they sharpen their team skills, becoming better leaders and members of their learning community as well as becoming more skilled at playing their instruments.

Our current students have discovered new friendships that may not have been developed had they not had this opportunity to make music together in the band class.

We were very fortunate to have had the help of our local high school band teacher who had given up some of his time to get us started. We were also fortunate to have been able to borrow some of his instruments. Now it is time for us to build our own inventory, starting with a few trumpets.

My Project

By acquiring our own instruments, our school will be able to continue to provide students this same opportunity in the coming school year as we strive to continue building the band program. The challenge of "cost" is what we face. Though we have a parent group that tries very hard to support the endeavors of our school, gathering funds for such a costly program can be a slow one. As much as we would like the school budget to take care of all the needs of our arts programs, there's the basic cost of the traditional core classes that become the priority.

I would like to provide our students with an experience that could possibly help develop a new hobby, build new friendships that may not have been built otherwise, and gain new skills in becoming a positive member of their a learning community.

This opportunity may help open their eyes to a more global understanding that, even though people are different, they can find ways to work together towards meeting common goals. Receiving a few more of our own instruments will help us continue to offer this experience.
