My Project

Our students love to read picture books, but are ready to level up to chapter books.

Diverse beginner chapter books for my young readers are needed so all of my students feel represented and gain exposure to various backgrounds, all while continuing to grow as readers.

I plan for my students to be able to read these books in our class library, while also using them in literacy groups. Students can talk about the story elements and hold book clubs with the series in class.

Many of my students speak multiple languages and depend on pictures for text clues. Students often think chapter books are intimidating due to their increased text and minimal pictures. My goal is to make the transition from picture books to chapter books less intimidating, have my students feel represented in our class materials, while simultaneously building their confidence as a reader with beginner chapter books. The main characters in these books come from various cultures that my students can identify with. Meanwhile, students will also be able to learn about other cultures as well.
