My Project

I am seeking funding to provide my classroom with a complete set of Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson, a compelling and transformative book that explores themes of justice, empathy, and social change. This project will enable my students to engage with issues such as inequality, civil rights, and the legal system, empowering them to think critically about society and their role within it.

These Books Make a Difference in Their Learning by:

Promoting Critical Thinking: Just Mercy challenges readers to think deeply about complex issues like racial inequality, justice, and humanity.

Enhancing Literacy Skills: By reading and discussing a powerful nonfiction text, students will sharpen their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and analytical writing skills.

Fostering Empathy and Civic Responsibility: Bryan Stevenson’s story of advocating for marginalized individuals inspires students to reflect on their own roles as active, compassionate citizens.

Engaging with Real-World Topics: Just Mercy ties into important discussions about the legal system, civil rights, and social justice, connecting classroom learning to real-world situations and inspiring students to engage with current events in meaningful ways.

Project Goals:

Increase Engagement with Social Justice: My goal is to foster a classroom environment where students are not only knowledgeable about historical and current injustices but are also inspired to become advocates for fairness in their communities.

What Makes My Students Special? My students are a diverse and vibrant group of young learners, each with unique backgrounds and perspectives. Many come from underrepresented communities where issues like justice, equality, and fairness are not just abstract concepts but lived experiences. What makes them special is their resilience, curiosity, and passion for learning about the world beyond the classroom walls.

Your generous donation will make a lasting impact on their educational journey and help them develop into informed, compassionate citizens. Thank you for considering supporting our classroom!
