Our school is a small, rural Pre-K through fifth-grade school with a student population of 246. The students here work hard and seem to always have a positive attitude about school. They enjoy learning new things and being a part of the community here. Being in a rural school makes it difficult for our students to participate in team sports that are offered in the closest town. Many of our students come from low-income homes, and they are faced with difficult situations.
Our students have good hearts, and our faculty and staff strive to give them as many opportunities for success as we possibly can.
Being at school is sometimes their only opportunity to see a different world other than the one that they live in every day.
My Project
Read alouds are a wonderful way to enhance reading comprehension, especially with nonfiction. These books will support my STEM unit on pollination. The books will help students the benefits of pollination and insects. We will also make our own pollinators. As I read to my students, I will engage my students by asking thought provoking comprehension questions and how insects help our plants.
The more students are exposed to quality reading, the better their comprehension and phonics skills will be.
Because I teach K-5th grade there is a range of book levels needed to reach all my students through distance learning.
