it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our students are bursting with curiosity, creativity, and a hunger to explore the world of STEAM. I am looking to nurture that excitement with tools that grow with them. With your support, we hope to bring a Sphero Indi Classroom Kit and code mats into our school to serve students in grades from as young as TK all through 8th.
Sphero Indi robots offer a fun, hands-on introduction to coding and problem-solving using color-coded mats that teach logic, sequencing, and basic programming, without screens.
That makes this an ideal way for students, especially our younger ones, to build foundational computer science skills in an age-appropriate and engaging way.
While the Indi kits are designed with early learners in mind, older students in grades 3–8 benefit just as much, using the kits to design and test mazes and challenges. Older students will be able to teach younger peers about code through peer-led STEAM activities. All students will extend their learning into concepts like loops, algorithms, and debugging.
The kits will be used regularly in our after-school Computer Science Club, where students from all grades come together to explore coding, robotics, hands on creating and various technology. They’ll be housed in our Innovation Lab which is available to any student during the school day who wants to create, explore, and engage with hands-on coding challenges.
Whether it's a kindergartener guiding a robot through a color-coded course or a middle school student developing a more complex path and teaching others how it works, every student will have the chance to learn, lead, and grow.
This project is also beneficial in that it supports students' mental health in that it allows them to engage in an activity of their choosing after school and brings value to their interests.
