We always tend to celebrate "firsts" whether it be the first president of the United States, the first man on the moon, the first black President, or even a first birthday! My students are the very definition of "first." To address overcrowding, our school is being built from the ground up and housing any students who do not have siblings in an existing school.
The first class in a brand new school, all of our students are the first-born children in their families.
This will be their first time in a classroom! This year will be the first time, for many, that they learn to read, write, and count. We couldn't be more excited to celebrate a year full of firsts!
My Project
When we think about learning, we often picture textbooks, paper, and pencil. But with the push for growing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) minds, this simply won't cut it anymore. Kids need opportunities to practice hands-on.
With Bee-Bots, our kindergarteners will begin to learn how to code.
Rather than simply controlling a robot like many other products, this offers students opportunities to develop a set of commands in order to move it. They will be able to manipulate their Bee-Bot to move in certain directions by programming it using a series of forward, backward, left, and right commands.
Students can even use the Bee-Bot to practice class material and coding at the same time! Using a mat full of sight words, students can work together to code the Bee-Bot to find the given sight word. This can be used with shapes, vocabulary, letters, and many other skills.
