Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students attend an urban public school with over four hundred children. Ninety-two percent receive free or reduced-price lunch. About half of our students are English Language Learners. Half the students in my classroom have speech and communication needs as well as autism. They come from diverse backgrounds but have many things in common.
Students at our school love to learn, and they especially enjoy and benefit from hands-on STEM projects.
They love sharing what they learn with the community. This semester, my students will be trying coding using technology such as mouse bots, bee-bots, and ladybugs.
My Project
Bee-Bot and Ladybug are the perfect hands-on introduction to coding for my kindergarten students. Anyone can learn to code and about programming and engineering. I want to spark my student's interest in coding from a young age. Bee-Bot and Ladybug will allow my students to code on a daily basis.
This semester, I have invited science experts from our community to visit our class and work with my students on coding and STEM activities.
The fun does not need to end when they leave. If we have our own set of coding robots, we will be able to code every day. This will spark my kinder students' imagination and help them be ready for the science and engineering challenges of the future.
