Shouldn't all students come to school excited to learn? That is every teacher's dream scenario. My students are a mix of special needs learners, specifically students on the autism spectrum, English language learners and neurotypical children. I am fortunate enough to teach these vibrant and creative children in a STEM classroom. Many of these students struggle, are frustrated, and face many challenges in their traditional academic learning. When they come to the STEM class, these same students are excited!
Students know that in STEM, they will have an opportunity to participate in a hands on learning experience, utilize technology, work collaboratively, and think outside the box to solve problems.
My students are fearless when it comes to technology and, as children of the 21st century, they need to be prepared in a myriad of ways that will allow them to be college and career ready. Let's give these Staten Island elementary school students the chance to flourish!
My Project
Our STEM program began this past September. From day one, students eagerly asked when the robots were arriving. This project will bring the robots to my excited STEM learners. Dash robots will allow my K-5 students to take ownership of their learning. Working in groups, children will follow the engineering design process to program the Dash robots to solve a problem. This situation mimics real life careers.
Students will learn through play, creatively problem solve, and start on the path of imagining and becoming inventors of the future.
My students have a great interest in learning coding, specifically with robots. By donating to this project, you will make their dreams come true. Support these self motivated learners to have access to technology that will enhance our STEM curriculum.
