Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Organization and responsibility are two skills I would like to teach to my students. I use Bee Books to help students and parents. Inside the bee book are weekly newsletters, homework, and a communication sheet. The privacy board serves as a teaching tool to help students work quietly.
My class is made up of bilingual Hispanic students that come from low economic families.
My students are on our free lunch program at school and participate in the food bank program. My students live in a gang infested neighborhood where they cannot feel safe at home. Most of my students have home-life issues that effect their learning at school.
My Project
The binders will be used as a parent/teacher/student communication. This will be a tool to help students be organized and responsible about their homework and class assignments. Inside the binder I use a parent communication sheet where I write notes to the parents daily. There are places in the binder for homework, class newsletters, and notes for parents. The privacy shields are used as a study guide for my students. I laminate and post math and reading guides such as place value charts, fraction bars, reading and writing check lists. These are visuals to help the students while working quietly. Yes, they also help keep students from disturbing others while working, and assist in classroom management. Using these tools helps my students to become responsible and organized learners. These are skills that are not in our reading and math curriculum, but are life skills important to their future learning.
This project will impact my students by learning life skills that they can take with them beyond my class.
It will benefit my parents by being able to communicate with me daily on our parent/teacher communication sheet. The parents will know what is expected in my class and know how to help their child. This will allow the parents, students, and myself to work as a team. The study buddies will help with visual learning and help my students feel successful.
