My Students

Fourth graders are amazing! They are creative, curious, and funny. There is never a dull moment with them. In addition to content, they are learning when to listen and when to be social, how to collaborate and cooperate, and they are learning how to be independent, motivated learners. This is a lot! As a teacher, it is my job to make sure students are enjoying learning so that they continue to love school and become lifelong learners. One way that I can do this is by creating an environment that is comfortable, yet conducive to learning. The materials that I am requesting will help my students remain engaged and motivated learners while providing lots of practice for the skills I am teaching.

The right resources can set the whole tone for a lesson, whether it is a mentor text for a content area, an introduction video to teach a skill, or a fun game!

My goal is to have my students engaged and in love with learning each day as they enter my classroom. Great resources provide students with materials that will engage and motivate them to be lifelong learners!

My Project

This year, we have adopted a new writing curriculum in hopes to improve students written work. So much research connects reading experience to good writing. One way to increase this is to use mentor texts and focus on the skill or craft being addressed.

Reading and modeling after the writing of established authors can improve student writing.

It is also an opportunity to enjoy a read aloud together and connect over topics and craft moves that we notice. The conversations my class has held about an engaging mentor test have blown me away. We are in need of titles that I do not yet have in order to continue this amazing practice.
