Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from challenging home lives and backgrounds and I try my very best to make school a place that they love. Every day they walk into class with smiles on their faces, ready to learn, but that can be difficult when we are lacking the basic necessities. Our school is very large, with over 1000 students. The majority of my students are English language learners. They come from a variety of backgrounds and many come from hard working families. All students receive district funded breakfast and lunch, because we are in a low-income neighborhood. Even with all of these obstacles, my students are motivated, caring and interested in learning. They love science and computers and reading non-fiction books. They know the importance of their education and are successfully beginning their academic careers.

My Project

With a class of such diverse and unique students, meeting the needs of every single one of them can sometimes be a challenge. The range of skill levels in my classroom is very diverse so allowing them time to practice the individual skills they need support with is crucial.

Being five years old, these students learn best through play and these independent STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) centers will allow my students the opportunity to practice skills in areas they need help with.

These centers will give my students a fun way to learn while successfully approaching the mastery of the Common Core State Standards for STEM.

The materials I am requesting will allow my students to tap into their natural and innate curiosity about the living world. By simply allowing them to investigate with different size Legos, student will begin the process of building and creating. The Kids Magnet Toys Magnet Building Tiles will provide a hands-on investigatory experience by using magnets to create whatever their imagination allows. ZOOB BuilderZ are open ended toys that will allow my students to construct, engineer and experiment. All of these products will give my students a hands on introduction to STEM learning.

These STEM centers will also allow me time to work with students more closely, while the rest of the students are working independently.
