Becoming Seedfolks

Help me give my students the experience of becoming Seedfolks with a classroom garden and journals to write their garden stories.

My Project

Paul Fleischman's Seedfolks tells the individual stories of the members of a diverse community garden. In the beginning, the people in the neighborhood coexist without acknowledging one another, while at the same time being suspicious of one another. Until one little girl plants a seed in an empty lot in honor of her father...and one by one, neighbors join her and plant their seeds, too.

I want my students to experience the stories in Seedfolks by becoming Seedfolks themselves.

I want them to create a community garden in our classroom and write their own stories for us to weave together into our own classroom collection of short stories.

In addition to our gardening supplies, I would like the hydroponic garden fish tank growing system for our calm down corner, so my students can observe and care for our fish and its plant.
